Metabolism is the process by which our body’s cells produce energy, and most of this energy is produced in mitochondria, a tiny inclusions in our cells. These cellular “powerhouses” burn calories, principally from blood sugar and fat.
But there is a trade-off. In producing energy, our body also ages from the damaging aspects of the free radicals that are generated in this process.
It takes about 3,000 genes to make one mitochondria, and only about 3% of those genes are allocated for making energy within cells. The remaining 95% of genes found within mitochondria are tied to cells formation and growth, functions of the metabolism, and various other specialized roles.
Mitochondria function is at the very heart of everything that occurs in our body, they have enormous influences to our health. Dysfunction of mitochondria are related to many health issues, including aging-related diseases & cancers.
In this session we will learn some practical steps in optimizing mitochondrial function and preventing mitochondrial dysfunction with diet modification, exercise, etc., for optimum health and disease prevention.
